Clay Stephens from Adelaide (SA) trained at Gymnastics South Australia's high performance centre, GYM-JETS, with coach Yu Bo, until moving to the National Centre of Excellence (Canberra) to enhance his extreme talent in the sport.
Clay began gymnastics at the age of five after being spotted through a talent identification program and as a result of lots of hard work is a rising star of Australian gymnastics.
2014 was a very successful year for Clay, taking out the Level 9 U17 National Championship as well as winning gold on Vault at the 2014 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships in Canada.
Already having represented his country through the Australian Youth Olympics Festival, Stephens was again called up for his country to participate in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, where he came fourth overall in the Vault.
In 2015, Stephens made the step up to seniors and made a very credible start in the National Championships, finishing eighth in the All-Around finals and second in the Vault.
In early 2017, Clay was able show the home crowd his impressive performances by competing at Australia's first World Cup Gymnastics event which was held in Melbourne, placing 5th on vault and 4th on parallel bars. Clay then went on to compete at the AGF Trophy and the Doha World Cup putting together more solid routines.
Clay continues to train hard to increase his difficulty to assist the Australian team in the future.
